Building Inquiry in Bend Since 2015

The Children’s Museum of Central Oregon (CMCO) was founded in 2015 as a 501(c)3 non-profit based in Bend, Oregon. Our Board of Directors is composed of local residents passionate about bringing more STEAM-based learning options to our community.

Initially, the Children’s Museum of Central Oregon was a “museum without walls” hosting summer camps and pop-up museum events in and around Central Oregon. Due to the continued growth in the region, and the continued lack of informal education opportunities for the youngest members of our community, in 2021 the board of directors pivoted to focus on building a museum WITH walls.

We envision a Central Oregon community where all children have access to hands-on learning and play that enriches their development. We will achieve our vision by executing on our mission to inspire curiosity and creativity through hands-on learning.

Mission & Vision

Although our specific goals change annually, our long-term objectives are:

  • Become "The Place to Go" in Central Oregon for hands-on learning and experience for children, their parents, and teachers.

  • Offer hands-on STEAM exhibits and programs for children aged 0-10 to support and encourage curiosity and healthy brain development as well as mental, emotional, and physical health.

  • Provide a place where parents can see hands-on education transforming their children into active learners.

  • Offer a performing arts center/theater space that can be used for children’s theater and rentable performance space in the community.

  • Offer STEAM based camps and programs throughout the year.

  • Progressively support diversity, equality, and accessibility.

  • Serve as a unique and essential community resource with financial viability to boost non-traditional economic growth.
